House Dormund

The sigil of House Dormund of Castle Dormund, whose current Lord is Marlin Dormund. The Dormunds are loyal bannerman to House Stark, having been made lords by King Edderion "The Bridegroom" Stark eight hundred years before the Targaryen Conquest. The story goes that Dormund, a sellsword from the Stormlands, arrived in the North after being forced to leave his home after bedding the daughter of the Storm King Durran IV. All he had was the clothes on his back, his sword and three diamonds. Making his way to Winterfell, he encountered King Edderion along with a company of soldiers on the road. Edderion was looking for a gift for his bride-to-be, but had found nothing and the wedding was in three days. Just then a band of outlaws ambushed the company, killing most of Edderion's escorts. Dormund and Edderion fought side by side and killed several men before the rest fled. In gratitude, Edderion promised Dormund a handsome reward for saving his life. When he told him of his quest, Dormund produced his diamonds, asking if these would provide a suitable gift. Edderion, astonished at his good fortune, said they would. Three days later, the wedding was a success and Dormund was made a Lord of the North and given lands at the fork of the White Knife. And so House Dormund owes its founding to the Starks, a sword and three diamonds.

Note: House Dormund was named in Episode 6 of Season 2, titled "The Old Gods and the New". There is no House Dormund mentioned anywhere in the books.
